Calling all members labeled Generation X! Yes, we are out there and we are listening and yes, we will eventually take over the world. Don't be scared baby boomers. You are our parents, you should be proud.
Generally, a GenXer is mislabeled, however in the world of employment the stereotypes tend to hold mud.
Generation X is typically defined as someone born between 1965 to 1980, however there is debate as to when the dates officially begin and end. Since generations possess the same properties as water, everyone can be right.
I am in the midst of finding my vocation, which is difficult. I once asked a baby boomer what I'd be good at based on prior knowledge of my work ethic and ambitions. I was told that I would be a good manager of a gift shop. I hold this against him everyday but also use the notion as fuel. For all those out there managing gift shops, I hope this is your calling. I however, am searching for something a little different.
Like my generation, I am ambitious and searching for work and life balance, even in this economy. Yes, my current job is good. It is great. But can it be better? Can I contribute? Can I change? Can I do something with the time I have here on this rock? Being a wife, sister, daughter and eventually a mother is worthy...but what else. For all of you Xers and cusp Yers out there...take a challenge and go for the gold. Live your dreams and seek your calling for the greater good.
